Saturday Session II

The family farm is your worksite as well as home for you and your family, but sometimes it’s a tough act to balance both. We’ll discuss strategies to help you meet your farm duties while keeping your small children home and in good hands.

Jillian Varney and her husband run the Small Family Farm and CSA, a 312-member CSA with 9 acres of vegetables near Viroqua, Wis. They began their CSA farm in 2007; their first child was born in 2011. They now have two children ages 2 and 5.

Kathrine Barnes is a researcher with the National Children’s Center for Rural Agricultural Health and Safety. She is driven by a desire to connect real-world practices with health research to make a healthier life possible for rural populations. Her background is in public health and anthropology.
