Building Blocks for Quality Hay Production

Workshop audio recordings from the 2014 MOSES Organic Farming Conference.

Karl Dallefeld, Prairie Creek Seed
Saturday III – 4 p.m.
During the workshop we will look at what affects quality forages and what the building blocks are for better production and harvest. Quality hay production has many aspects and paying attention to details will reduce the risks of lower quality or poor yields. Success starts before the seed is planted and continues throughout the life of the stand. We will start with species and variety selection and discuss options and suggestions to the final product. Your management and available resources help determine your options and potential quality forages. We will present many of the determining factors from equipment and storage to quality measurements and harvest timing.
