Dave Mortensen and Charlie White
Saturday Session II
By mixing species with complementary strengths, a cover crop “cocktail” can provide a broader array of services than one species can provide alone. Learn how to select species and adjust seeding rates for your specific field needs. We’ll also look at the costs and benefits of a range of farm-friendly cover crop mixtures.
Dave Mortensen is a professor of weed and applied plant ecology. He has spent his career studying ecologically based solutions to input replacement on farmers’ fields.
Charlie White is an assistant professor at Penn State. He is working together with Dave Mortensen and an interdisciplinary research team, including farmer collaborators, to use cover crop mixtures to manage soil health, nutrient cycling, and agroecosystem multi-functionality.
