Ray Archuletta and Gabe Brown
By thinking biologically rather than chemically, farmers and ranchers can build more resilience into their soils. A farming system that mimics nature will produce healthy, living soils and in turn, more money in your pocket. Learn about feeding the soil and incorporating diversity in cropping systems to better understand the living soil, its water-holding capacity, fertility and production potential.
Ray Archuleta, the “Soils Guy,” is a conservation agronomist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. He is also a Certified Professional Soil Scientist with the Soil Science Society of America.
Gabe Brown is a soil health pioneer. He and his family own and operate a 5,000-acre farm and ranch near Bismarck, N.D. where they holistically integrate grass-finished beef and lamb and no-till cropping systems, eliminating the need for synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides. They also raise pastured laying hens, broilers and swine.
