Since tillage is an important aspect of seed bed preparation and weed control on organic farm, the accompanying risk of soil erosion is a challenge all organic farmers face. However, choosing and using your equipment wisely as well as building organic matter and increasing soil biological activity can lessen the incidents of soil loss. Strip and contour farming and smart crop rotations including cover crops or sod crops also contribute to sustainable land management. Learn what you can do reduce soil erosion while maintaining good weed control, and if there may be Natural Resources Conservation Service cost share for these practices.
