Federal Programs that Support Organic

Workshop audio recording from the 2017 MOSES Organic Farming Conference.

Ben Bowell and Julie Ammel
Friday Session II

Find out how to access government programs that support organic producers: conservation programs that can help you design a crop rotation for reducing erosion, select native plants to attract pollinators, or create and finance a grazing management plan; programs to improve your buffer zone or pay you for non-cropped land; funds to reimburse your costs for organic certification; and, many more programs to support your farm.

Ben Bowell is an organic education specialist for Oregon Tilth and also works for the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). He provides technical assistance and trainings, and develops technical resources for use by NRCS staff, agricultural professionals, and producers in order to better support conservation work on organic farms.

Julie Ammel began her career with the USDA NRCS in 2001 in California. She moved to Wisconsin in 2005 and is currently a Wisconsin NRCS Organic Specialist. She is the NRCS representative for SARE and the Organic Advisory Council. Julie works out of the Stevens Point office.
