Innovative Weed Control

Workshop audio recording from the 2017 MOSES Organic Farming Conference.

Friday Session III

The ongoing quest to control weeds in row crops requires innovation. We’ve tried many kinds of cultivators and flame-weeders, and have even made some implements of our own. We’ll share what has and hasn’t worked to conquer weeds in our fields.

Gary McDonald, owner-operator of Two Roads Farm, is an organic transition consultant. He was raised on a grain and livestock farm that used organic practices before they were called “organic.” He currently manages several certified organic farms and consults on other farms, helping them especially with weed control.

Jonathan Olson farms near Cottonwood, Minnesota. He and his family grow certified organic corn, soybeans, and small grains on 1,100 acres, some of which have been in the family for over 100 years.
