This workshop includes an overview of agriculture in the Great Lakes Region, including the Red Lake Local Food Initiative, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s Wozupi Tribal Farm, and Spirit Lake Native Farms.

David Manuel and Michael Van Horn work for the Red Lake Local Food Initiative that is working to expand community food production on the Red Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota. 

Victoria Ranua is the director of Shakopee Mdewakanton’s Wozupi Tribal Farm that produces vegetables, fruits, berries, and maple syrup for their Tribally Supported Agriculture (TSA) effort and the Tribe’s Mazopia Market. 

Tawny Smith Savage is co-owner of Spirit Lake Native Farms that produces maple syrup and finishes traditional hand-harvested wild rice.
