Organic Farmers Association

Workshop audio recording from the 2017 MOSES Organic Farming Conference.

Theresa Podoll and Michael Sligh
Saturday Session II

Organic farmers have been part of coalitions nudging local, state, regional and national policies that support organic agriculture. However, as the organic sector has grown, the voice of the farmer has become somewhat lost. Organic Farmers Association seeks to empower farmers and strengthen our voices through unification. Learn about this new alliance, its vision to influence farm policy, and how you can get involved.

Theresa Podoll and her extended family—the 2014 MOSES Organic Farmers of the Year—run Prairie Road Organic Farm and Seeds in North Dakota, which has been certified organic since 1977. Theresa advocates for seed access and sovereignty, biodiversity, and the integrity of organic agriculture.

Michael Sligh works for Rural Advancement Foundation International, based in N.C. He was founding chair of the National Organic Standards Board, as well as a founding member of USDA-Agricultural Biotechnology Advisory Council. He has over 30 years of experience with agricultural policies, and co-authored Farmer’s Guide to GMOs.
