Precision Cover Cropping

Workshop audio recordings from the 2014 MOSES Organic Farming Conference.

Joel Gruver, Western Illinois University
Saturday II – 2 p.m.
This workshop will explore the concept of precision cover cropping in organic grain production systems with a focus on on-going research at the WIU/Allison organic research farm in Western IL. We will discuss planting cover crops using precision planting equipment (e.g., a corn planter), cover crop mixtures in specific row arrangements, and organic strip-till and no-till options using GPS guidance. Results from recent field experiments with corn and soybeans will be presented as well as potential opportunities under consideration. Attendees who have experience with any aspect of precision cover cropping will be encouraged to share their experiences.
