Friday Session I
Organic farmers, who care deeply about soil, struggle to balance the need for tillage with their goals of soil conservation. Learn how to limit soil disturbance and build soil organic matter with practices such as interseeding and rolled mulch. Explore ways to mitigate erosion using grassed waterways and contour farming. Also, learn about the financial and technical resources available to help you put these practices into action.
Ben Bowell is an organic education specialist for Oregon Tilth and also works for the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). He provides technical assistance and trainings, and develops technical resources for use by NRCS staff, agricultural professionals, and producers in order to better support conservation work on organic farms.
