Claire Strader
Friday Session III
Learning to grow food is just one component of starting an organic vegetable farm. Turning production skill into a viable business requires attention to markets, finances, labor, and land access as well. This session will lay out important considerations for start-up operations, offer resources on how to learn more, and provide some examples of how established farms got their start.
Claire Strader is the small-scale and organic produce educator for Dane County Extension and FairShare CSA Coalition, working with producers to build productive and sustainable farm businesses. She started Troy Community Farm, a 4-acre urban farm in Madison, Wis.
