Whether you have 1 or 31 workers, you need to know the rules and practical aspects of employment law. Join an attorney and an experienced farmer to discuss wages, workers’ compensation, tax matters, as well as hiring, retaining, and releasing employees. We’ll also look at innovative volunteer, intern, and work share programs from a legal and practical perspective.

Rachel Armstrong is an attorney who founded and directs Farm Commons, a nonprofit legal services organization that helps farmers resolve business legal issues. Her background includes working on farms, managing a community garden, starting a catering company that featured local foods. and running a nonprofit local foods consulting program.

Cassie Noltnerwyss and her husband, Mike, run Crossroads Community Farm just west of Madison, Wis. They produce over 50 different vegetables (and at least as many weeds) on about 25 acres. 2016 will be their 12th season. They market through a 350-member CSA, a farmers’ market and direct wholesale in Madison.
