Saturday Session III

Having a marketing plan in place before you put animals on your pasture can mean the difference between making a profit and getting stuck with a freezer full of meat. Learn the pros and cons of various marketing strategies, and how to focus on your strengths to turn your grass-fed operation into a profitable business.

John Mesko is the executive director of MOSES. He has a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and a master’s in farm management from Purdue University. He and his wife own a grass-fed beef operation in east central Minnesota.

Rod Ofte is a fourth-generation farmer with an organic grass-fed beef operation near Coon Valley, Wis. He leads Norse Group Consulting and active in the Wallace Center Pasture Project. He markets beef directly to consumers and via the Wisconsin Grass-fed Beef Cooperative.
