Saturday I – 8:30 a.m.
Initially started with a USDA grant, the effort is working to implement a sustainable business model to address food desert and market access issues in American Indian communities. In addition to presenting an overview of Tribal food production, this workshop will cover steps necessary to starting a small-scale food distribution company, including vehicle purchasing and outfitting, coordinating inventory and transportation management, regulation and licensing, and building connections across production and distribution networks. The workshop will also address establishment of farmers markets and incorporation of food assistance programs like SNAP and WIC, as well as strengthening relationships between rural producers and urban consumers.
