Friday Session I

Conservation practices are essential to the health of any organic farm. Learn about a new conservation plan designed to mesh with your Organic System Plan as well as a Conservation Activity Plan for Transition. We’ll discuss different conservation practices and their expected outcomes to help you decide which practices to implement on your farm.

Lindsay Haines is the national organic and pest management specialist for NRCS. She has worked with NRCS for 30 years, including serving as the program manager for the EQIP Organic Initiative. She farms organically with her husband.

Brian Pillsbury is the Wisconsin statewide Grazing Lands Specialist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Within NRCS he has held the positions of District Conservationist in Osceola County, Iowa, and State-wide Agonomist in Burlington, Vt. He grew up on a dairy farm in Shelburne, Vt and holds a B.S. in Plant and Soil Science, and an M.S. In Entomology.
