Fossil fuel extraction and consumption is becoming increasingly costly, both economically and environmentally. A variety of on-farm renewable energy systems can be used in combination to fill the energy needs of an organic farm (silver buckshot instead of a single silver bullet). This workshop will look at how organic farmers are using solar photovoltaics, wind, solar hot water systems, geothermal, biodiesel and other renewable and energy-efficiency systems to make their farms more self-sufficient, resilient and profitable. The workshop will also cover newly developing energy technologies such as pyrolysis, ammonia-powered internal-combustion engines and storage of solar and wind energy.
